Savannahlander Season Starts
2028 is loaded onto a low loader
The Savannahlander’s 2007 season has started but not without some interesting happenings. In early February there was a landslide on the Cairns Kuranda section of the Savannahlander’s route. The first Savannahlander was scheduled for the 28th of February and we were nervously waiting for word on the re-opening of the Kuranda Range. When Queensland Rail announced that the landslide area would take two months or more to stabilise it was decided to relocate the Savannahlander rail motors to Mareeba so operations to Forsayth could commence for the year.
2028 being re-located to Mareeba
On the 5th of March two of the Savannahlander units (2028 and 2053) were moved by road to Mareeba. The service began operating from Mareeba and a few weeks later commenced from Kuranda when trackwork between Kuranda and Mareeba was complete. Services are now back to normal with the 6.30 am departure from Cairns.
